Mr. Hussein Ahmed Ismail Refaie

Chairman and Managing Director of Suez Canal Bank Since June 2017

Hussein Refaie has over 35 years’ experience in Banking and Finance. Prior to joining Suez Canal Bank, he has held several Senior Executive positions in a number of leading multinational and national organizations, including Executive Board Member at the National Bank of Egypt, CFO at Barclays, CFO & Vice President at Citibank, Senior Finance Director for Bristol Myers Squibb for the Gulf Region, as well as Societe Generale Bank in Egypt.

Mr. Refaie joined National Bank of Egypt in 2008 as the Chief Financial Officer overseeing the Finance Division and the Strategic Planning Unit during which he played an instrumental role in the successful transformation and restructuring of the Bank. In August 2010, Mr. Refaie contributed effectively in NBE’s first Bond issuance in the International Capital Markets of 60 MN $.

In April 2015, Mr. Refaie was appointed as an Executive Board Member of National Bank of Egypt and assumed greater responsibilities overlooking Treasury, Capital Markets and Financial Institutions.

Mr. Refaie served as Board Member and Chairman in different institutions among which:

Chairman of AL-Ahly Capital; the investment arm for National Bank of Egypt, First Chairman of Al-Ahly Exchange Company and Chairman of CIIC.

Board member of NBE-DIFC, Board member of NBE-UK and Board Member of Al Ahly Real Estate Company as well as Meridien Heliopolis.

Mr. Refaie holds a BSc. in Accounting from Ain Shams University, Cairo (1982).

MBA from Thunderbird, American Graduate School of International Management, USA (1987) and CPA (Certified Public Accountant) from Washington Board of Accountancy , USA (1993).
