Mr. Amr Tantawy, Chairman of Suez Canal Bank, is a seasoned banking professional and one of the prominent leaders of the Egyptian banking sector, with nearly five decades of experience. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in developing institutional performance and strengthening corporate governance across major banking and financial institutions.

Mr. Tantawy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting) from Cairo University. He has a long and distinguished professional record and a balanced vision that combines institutional discipline with practical experience.

Mr. Tantawy undertook the position of Chairman of Suez Canal Bank in March 2024. Since then, he has worked on implementing the bank’s governance and transparency. He focuses on managing the bank’s assets wisely, strengthening financial stability, and supporting sustainable growth, using his strong experience in balancing growth with risk management.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Tantawy held senior positions at several leading banks and financial institutions, including Arab African International Bank, National Bank of Egypt – (currently NBK) , Egyptian Gulf Bank (currently EG Bank(, and Bank Misr Iran for Development (currently MIDBank). He gained broad experience in banking operations, credit, investment management, and institutional leadership. He was also appointed Managing Director and later Deputy Chairman of Bank Misr Iran for Development during a period marked by comprehensive restructuring and clear improvement in performance indicators and operational efficiency.

Mr. Tantawy currently serves as a Non-Executive Chairman for several financial and investment entities, including Misr Insurance company , Corplease, and The Egyptian Securitization Company. He is also a General Assembly Member with expertise at Nasr General Contracting (Hassan Allam), which is affiliated with the Holding Company for Construction and Development.

In addition, Mr. Tantawy has contributed his expertise to a wide range of public and private sector entities, including listed companies on the Egyptian Exchange and national development projects. He also previously served as a board member of several prominent institutions, such as the Egyptian Exchange and the Federation of Egyptian Banks, as well as a number of companies operating in real estate finance, urban development, tourism, infrastructure, investment, digital solutions, and industry. These include Al-Tameer for Real Estate Development (Al Oula), Misr Iran for Administrative and Tourism Facilities, Suez Canal for Technology Localization, Egyptians Abroad, Egyptians for Housing and Development, Al-Tameer Leasing Company (Al Oula), Delta Gas, and Stro Egypt.

This diversity of experience across sectors has contributed to broadening his institutional perspective and strengthening his deep understanding of governance and decision-making mechanisms at the board level.
